This from a post by Adam at pomomusings: "where is the worship for [those] who care about social justice and want to incorporate that into the musical aspect of their worship. Where is this music going to come from?"
Well, I think the Mennonite hymnal has a couple of good ones to start with.
Mennonite Hymnal #226
verse 1
You are salt for the earth, O people,
salt for the kingdom of God!
Share the flavor of life, O people:
life in the kingdom of God!
refrain Bring forth the kingdom of mercy,
bring forth the kingdom of peace.
Bring forth the kingdom of justice,
bring forth the city of God!
verse 2 You are a light on the hill, O people,
light for the city of God!
Shine so holy and bright, O people:
shine for the kingdom of God!
verse 3 You are a seed of the word, O people,
bring forth the kingdom of God!
Seeds of mercy and seeds of justice,
grow in the kingdom of God!
verse 4 We are the blessed and a pilgrim people,
bound for the kingdom of God!
Love our journey and love our homeland:
love is the kingdom of God!
Mennonite Hymnal #367
verse 1 For the healing of the nations,
Lord, we pray with one accord,
for a just and equal sharing
of the things that earth affords.
To a life of love in action
help us rise and pledge our word.
verse 2 Lead your people into freedom.
From despair your world release,
that, redeemed from war and hatred,
all may come and go in peace.
Show us how, through care and goodness,
fear will die and hope increase.
verse 3 All that kills abundant living,
let it from the earth be banned:
pride of status, race, or schooling,
dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice
may we hallow life's brief span.
verse 4 You, Creator-God, have written
your great name on humankind.
For our growing in your likeness,
bring the life of Christ to mind,
that by our response and service
earth its destiny may find.
You posted about the song "Real-Life Offering" at http://cleave.blogs.com/pomomusings/2005/05/ec05_seminar_pu.html and wanted to know the artist... well, I can answer that! My friend, Brad Guldemond, goes to Briercrest Bible College and wrote that song... Elevate sings it on their tours, which is amazing.
Hope this helps! :)
