I
received a beautiful leather-bound sketchpad/notebook for Christmas a
few years ago and have been saving it up for the perfect project,
scared to make a mark in it for fear of making a mistake and ruining
it. I finally decided how to use it and I began writing in it a little
over a week ago:
"Introduction. Alleia is already one week old. Janel and I are
beginning to catch our breath, she is feeding well, and we (or at least
I) are getting a little more sleep each night. It may be premature, but
I can't help but imagine her growing up -- and since everyone says how
quick it will go, I wanted to be sure to make some notations along the
way. In a world that is only getting more post-modern, with all the
emphasis on story that that entails, it seems appropriate to keep a
record of some of the important parts of Alleia's story -- especially
while she's too young to remember for herself. My hope is that as the
years go by, we can use this book as a special storybook from time to
time, to read from at bedtimes or birthdays, and eventually to present
to her as a gift, a story to supplement all the other important stories
-- familial stories, those of friends and of acquaintances, stories of
the faith and the way of Jesus."
What a beautiful idea and storybook for Alleia. Sometimes the little daily stories are even better than the big ones that get told over and over. I'm sure she's already filled you pages of things to begin...
